Sevilla (Spain) vs. Postojna (Slovenia)

I’m from Postojna, so coming to Seville was a big deal for me. In three weeks I’ve noticed so many differences like:

-          Food: back home, going to a restaurant or a bar to eat is reserved only for special occasions (birthday, anniversary…) but here it’s weird if you stay home and cook something because the whole town is out eating tapas or whatever. Also the stores are smaller (less different types of food) than where we are from, because people rarely buy any food and that was a big surprise.

-          Restaurants/bars: In Postojna there is less than ten places you can eat, but here there is a bar on every corner and you can’t go anywhere without seeing at least 5 of these.

-          Weather: Seville’s heat. We thought we knew what it’ll be like but no one was really prepared for 36 degrees (at seven o’clock in the evening!!). These kinds of temperatures are in Slovenia only in August and even then that’s a bit hot. But here people weren’t even wearing shorts or tank tops (well some did, but not that many) and they all say: oh, that’s nothing. Wait till it gets over 40 degrees. (what??)

-          People: Seville has nearly 700k inhabitants. That is one third of the Slovenia’s population. Back home it’s easy to spot a tourist. They’re either wearing different clothes or maybe they have a camera in their hands, but here there is no way to tell that someone isn’t from Seville just by looking at them. It is really something. In Postojna for example if you wear something other than jeans and a t-shirt, people will stare, but here you can dress however you like and no one will even notice.

I really don’t like this heat, it ruins everything. But other than that I think it was a good idea coming here.
